Ron Paul Experiment

Another blog, which I shan’t yet name nor link to so as not to bias the test, has run an experiment. He chummed the waters with a few remarks about Ron Paul. Kind of like this:

Ron Paul, Ron Paul, Ron Paul, Ron Paul. And Ron Paul. Is Ron Paul Crazy? Is he a real Republican?

I thought I’d try it on this blog, being a relatively unknown backwater of the blogosphere. Oh, I know, I have a handful of faithful, regular readers for whom I write.

Actually, I’ve long admired Ron Paul, and considered him one of the most principled members of Congress. On many issues he’s certainly right on the money. I happen to think he’s missed the point entirely in the war, which is the number one issue right now since, duh, we’re at war.

I was recently disappointed to see video of him consorting with Truther morons. I understand that a man campaigning needs to be polite, but he could (and should) have distanced himself. Instead he mumbled darkly about government conspiracy and the Kennedy Assasination.

Unless Ron Paul distances himself forcefully from the tinfoil hat crowd, he’s going to get tarred as one of them. It’s rather moot, though, since he’s not even registering on a single poll right now. But I’d like to have him stay in the race just to keep the other guys honest – as long as he doesn’t go all Ross Perot on us.

So here’s the test. Ron Paul, Ron Paul, Ron Paul. Earth to Ron Paul: We need you.

  1. Ron Paul seems to be a skeptic, challenging all ideas, yet open minded and willing to believe that even a cynic can find a truth. I find no fault in his being polite to folks who have silly ideas (or might discover something interesting).

In general, a wide range of folks support Paul, even some with conflicting ideas on some issues. I guess most folks who like Ron Paul have one or two issues that are core and several other issues in which Paul looks right most of the time. So supporters often stand side-by-side with folks they never expected to be there.

I’m not worried about the statistics. If folks said they won’t support him because the polls are low, they would be creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. I’ll support him as though he is a credible candidate, and yet have my eyes wide open. I have never received a toaster in the mail because I guessed who would win and supported that winner.

Go all Ross Perot? I’m not sure what you mean. Ron Paul has been a congressman for a long time. His ideals are clear. He is consistent. He is not making up positions on issues by flipping a coin.

Did I miss anything? Oh, yeah. Support Ron Paul for the next war, the one we would never know we missed because Ron Paul was President.

(The reason why Ron Paul is right for this “war” is left as an exercise.)

You didn’t bring it up, but I’ll say that the most important reason for Ron Paul is to bring honor, self-control and responsibility back to the presidency.

  2. Barely registering in the polls? Are you serious? He is winning by a large margin in virtually every single poll, look them up, Fox, MSNBC, ABC, GOPstrawpolls, and many many more. Oh but they say he is barely registering in the polls on tv, well turn off you tv and get online. The reason he is not registering in the polls they are referring to tv is because he is NOT EVEN LISTED AS AN OPTION. In 32 Gallup, Zogby, state, and national polls Ron Paul is only listed as an option in 5 of them! Contrast that with Gingrich being in 26 of them and he is not even running! Look it up.

  4. Chum, well go ahead and be fish food if you wish.

But, last I heard the Internet had these things called search engines and hyper links, it’s all rather complicated, all that insidious cross linking, comparisons and checking.

And, Paul’s Presidential Campaign is pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into the effort to flood the internet with the “spam” of paid supporters. Honest Candidates like Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney don’t get a fair shake because of the unfair road blocks set before them on the Internet Super Highway.

/sigh If only the Internet was filled with savvy individualists and free thinkers then we could possibly stave off Ron Paul’s pro-establishment and bellicose message.

  5. Well chum the waters and we the fish will feed.

I’ll be honest, I was a disenfranchised voter who had little reason to follow any of the canditates as in my opinion, they are all out for the same thing, they just use different lies to appeal to different sectors of the populus.

Then I hear this small framed older gentleman during a debate, do something so completely revolutionary that I have to sit up and listen. He spoke the truth, and used common sense in his arguements. It wasn’t the popular position, it wasn’t the party line, it was just simply the truth.

I checked his voting record and quickly realized he votes in congress based on his oath of office, to uphold the constitution. He has his own personal beliefs but when it comes to the decisionmaking process, he votes the constitutions position. That is novel, and that is just what America needs right now.

Its time to stop thinking we are all qualified in some way to make decisions for the rest of the population, either of the country or the world. You are responsible for your own actions, good or ill, and should be willing to stand for your positions. As a nation though, we only have one legal position, that of the constitution. Follow it and we cannot go wrong, turn from it and we see what happens.

  6. Your voice echoes the voice of the devil that all politicians have to cope with. You are in effect telling Ron to lay his principles of humble skepticism aside and cave into the world to start playing the political gain with the promise of power if he does. This is the poison that destroys many a good men and women. Fortunately, knowing Ron Paul as I do, he is not likely going to take your advice.

The question really is whether the people of the United States of America will realize what a gem Ron Paul is. Will we recognize his principles of responsibility, meekness, temperance, courage, etc. It has been a very long time, and in fact possibly never, that someone has been in the heart of Washington DC politics for as many years as he has (31 years?) and yet maintained a consistent unadulterated true blue performance where his oath of office as a Congressman is concerned.

Ron Paul is America’s dream come true and we are very fortunate to have him running for president. I truly have hope again thanks to him.

  8. Ron Paul simply wants to restore freedom to the United States, I don’t know why so many people seem to hate freedom lately.

  9. Psychobabble is the art of dismissing the mind of anyone who takes a position different than your own. It is a sure sign of an intellectual amateur who finds it easier to dismiss another mind than to refute the arguments of that mind.

Ron Paul never indulges in psychobabble and that is why he is willing to listen and find common ground even with those who take extraordinary and outlandish postions. He is far too wise to label them the “tinfoil hat crowd”.

Ron Paul will get my vote. I haven’t found a single quote of his with which I disagree. And although you smear him with your condescending and dismissive rhetoric, you haven’t provided a single quote that you disagree with either. You are acting wise instead of being wise.

  10. I know it’s tough to embrace an honest public servant, but…

Ron Paul actually lives by his words and his record in Congress proves it. He’s never once voted to raise taxes. Try finding a neo-con liberal who can say that!

    Ron Paul in 2008!

  11. Will Ron Paul & Rudy Giuliani Debate Foreign Policy at Freedomfest?
The annual FreedomFest conference, has issued a debate invitation to GOP Presidential candidates Rudy Giuliani and Ron Paul to use FreedomFest ‘07 as a debate venue to further explore their fundamental differences in foreign policy and the war in Iraq that were highlighted in the Columbia, SC debate.

  12. Ron Paul seems to be the real deal. His impressive track record speaks volumes about his integrity. If I was an american, I would vote for him. He will save his country, and hopefully, the changes in the US of A would start some changes in my side of the ocean.
