“I do believe marriage is something that existed before both church and government.”
Yep, and you could marry multiple women back then. Maybe we should repeal polygamy laws?
I’d love to debate with you on this one, cause I think the ‘Yes on 8’ arguments, so far, are tenuous at best. The fact that 4 liberal judges repealed a mandate from the people doesn’t make the mandate any less unconstitutional. If everyone got together and brought back slavery, got it on the ballot (apparently there’s no constitutional oversight on measures put on ballots), and the state overwhelmingly voted for it, does that make it right?
The Yes on 8 crowd have really got their panties in a twist over this one..Sorry gang, these were legally appointed Judges who made their ruling. Stop moaning about “liberal bias”. It’s a weak argument and disingenuous.
The fact that the ruling does not represent”the voice of the people” is entirely inconsequential.
This vote is really nothing more than a group of people wanting to maintain a tradition. Which is fine.
Although I do find it curious that the yes on 8 crowd’s world view seems threatened over a legal definition of one word.
Just how much money has the Mormon Church dumped into this campaign to pass 8? Curious priority.

Personally, I say some “traditions” should die.
Time will tell…
