He hired and surrounded himself with people who did this to their own veep candidate.
Now, maybe Palin really is a hot-headed shopaholic. But if you believe she really didn’t know Africa was a continent and not a country I’ve got a bridge to nowhere to sell you.
It was clear that McCain was running one of the worst campaigns ever. I just had no idea how bad. What a bunch of petty bozos.
Update:
Or, as Byron York puts it, what a bunch of losers.
I am furious with those creeps in the McCain camp who savaged Gov. Palin in this way! She is a shining star and brought many into the fight because she was a true conservative and we voted for her. I think she will be a light in the conservative wing of the Republican party. Right now, I hope she finds some solace in being back with Family in Alaska and realizes what a great job she did. And fie upon those weasels who are trying to destroy her? I think that now McCain can go back to being a Rino, move from his seat in the senate to first vacant seat on the dems side and do what he has done so often in the past…vote with them. Wrathfully yours, JM Caldwell

I’ll concede that It’s difficult to ascertain what exactly is true from the latest “he said, she said” high school dynamic of the post McCain world…
Having said that one can infer..
Palin was simply not ready for prime time. The McCain campaign became increasingly aware of this fact as the weeks progressed and did the best they could to protect their Presidential candidate from both Palin’s inexcusable verbal blunders and (apparently) her unchecked hubris.
Unfairly or not, Palin came to represent the Republican’s modern love affair with anti-intellectualism, and while this “folksy” attitude certanly resonated with many, it also proved to be too much to swallow for so many political moderates. The Palin Meme was the undoing of it all.
Well..that and 8 years of Bush, yes?
Call McCains handlers “losers” all you want, her behavior must be examined when looking for reasons why the Republican bid stalled, and then was finally killed. To blame it all on the “gotcha” left wing press is simply disingenuous.
Tina Fey had LOTS to work with didn’t she?
If I’m a Republican wondering what went wrong, I’m going to look at the Newt Gingrich anti-intellectualism strategy in a sober light.
It’s not working anymore.

[…] I did report the reporting of the outrageous Palin claims, I was at least skeptical. Even if this wasn’t really a McCain advisor, the campaign comes off as a bunch of losers for […]
